Beer Review – Victoria Bitter Original Ale

Victoria Bitter Original Ale

Let me get this straight from the beginning, I am not a big fan of commercial beers. I mean lets face it, V.B. is tasteless and gassy and thats about it.

Its the fast food of the brewing world brewed by the kings of fast food beer, Carlton and United.

Dont get me wrong, it has its place.

After a hard days work in summer, with the cricket on the radio, nothing slakes the thirst as quick as an icey cold Vic from a stubby.

It needs to be as close to frozen as you can get it and drunk in one swift motion so as to not touch the sides on it way down the old pie hole.

So what about this take on an old stayer. Think Maccas healthy choices. Still the same maccas taste but just a bit jazzier and with a price to match.

And just like the above mentioned, this beer is a nice effort and is certainly the better option. The roasted malt comes through nicely and the bitter finish is crisp and pleasing.

The mouth feel is smooth enough and stays with you till the next swig. Not sure of what hops have been used but I suspect a lot of Pride of Ringwood and maybe some saaz for the aroma.

In all this is not a bad drop and for those die hard V.B. crew worth a try. Try it with a big juicy homemade burger and thick cut chips with lots of dead horse and swoon in the feel of an Aussie summer listening to the cricket.

I give this 3 out of 5

Available at all good Bottlo’s in 375ml stubbies.
